Untangling Self: A Buddhist Investigation of Who We Really Are

A Retreat in the Insight Meditation Tradition with Andrew Olendzki

Saturday October 28, 2017
12 noon-5:00 p.m.
Unitarian Universalist Church
20 Elm Street, Milford, NH 03055

What: Come join us for an afternoon of contemplation, meditation and study sponsored by the Souhegan Insight Meditation Group. Andrew Olendzki will help us unpack the early Buddhist teachings on the psychologically-transformative understanding of who we really are. During this communal gathering we will explore ways in which our self understanding may lessen common human suffering. There will be periods of silent sitting and walking meditation, plus a dharma talk and plenty of time for questions and discussion on how we understand and construct the self.

Who: Andrew Olendzki, PhD, is a Buddhist scholar, teacher, and writer. Trained at Lancaster University (UK), the University of Sri Lanka (Perediniya), and Harvard, he worked in leadership positions for 25 years at the Insight Meditation Society and then at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, where he was the senior scholar. He has taught at Amherst, Brandeis, Hampshire, Harvard, Lesley, and Smith Colleges, and spent two years at the Mind & Life Institute working on their Mapping the Mind project.

Andrew has contributed chapters to many books on Buddhist psychology, writes regularly for Tricycle: The Buddhist Review, and is the author of Unlimiting Mind: The radically experiential psychology of Buddhism (Wisdom, 2010), and Untangling Self: A Buddhist investigation of who we really are (Wisdom 2016). He is currently the senior scholar at the Integrated Dharma Institute, developing and teaching a series of online study and practice programs. Learn more about Andrew at AndrewOlendzki.org
